  1. Storm Products, Inc. - Web, Logo & Print Design

Storm Products, Inc. Logo Design (opens in a new window)

Artifex has been working closely with this Utah-based bowling products manufacturer since 1999. We designed, developed, and continue to manage their three websites. We also design their catalogs, product logos, product packaging, and advertising. We even create the names of some of their new products.

Web Design, Application Development, and Web Maintenance

In 1999 we launched a new website for Storm. The site became known as the most advanced and entertaining in the bowling industry. Its most distinctive feature was the entertaining Flash animations that were launched with major product releases.

    Custom Content Management System

In 2003 Storm asked Artifex to design a new website in order to update the branding, streamline the navigation, and improve search engine results. We launched the site in the summer of 2003, delivering a custom Content Management System, robust email marketing application, and a comprehensive contact database. Storm was very happy with the new look and with the improved search engine results.

    Standards Compliant Code

We updated Storm's website to meet W3C XHTML/CSS web standards in 2006. The site loads faster and is ranked high in the major search engines. Storm is typically found on the first page of Google for the term "bowling balls" and is the first of its competitors to be listed.

    E-Commerce Business Development

Artifex also designed and developed Storm's e-commerce website, www.stormchasers.net. Launched in 2001, the site paid for itself within 6 months by selling Storm branded merchandise to bowling fans. Artifex has tied the website e-commerce function to Storm’s main website and has provided useful management tools in the e-commerce administration.

    3D Modeling and Animation

Artifex creates a web-based, animated "trailer" to help promote major product releases. Trailers are customized to each marketing campaign and are featured on the home page and on the product pages of the website. They are also displayed at trade shows and have been featured as TV commercials on ESPN.

  2. APA – The Engineered Wood Association - Website Maintenance, Search Engine Optimization

APA - The Engineered Wood Association

Artifex was hired in 2002 to maintain APA's two websites: apawood.org and wooduniversity.org. Their goals were to increase traffic, improve search engine ranking, and add features that would improve the usability and utility of the sites.

Built with Macromedia (now Adobe) Cold Fusion and MS SQL, the websites are complex, inter-related, and controlled by a custom Content Management System (CMS).

    Accessibility/SEO Website Goals Achieved

Artifex immediately made a number of changes to help improve search engine results. We optimized the key-phrase visibility, added alt tags, improved page titles, and strategically added internal links. Now, as changes are made, Artifex consults with APA to optimize the sites for search engines. This work has returned a steady increase in traffic and search engine rank. Search for "plywood" and you will see APA at the top of the list.

    Significant Improvements Realized:

    • Designed and developed the popular www.apacad.org website
    • Implemented a custom Computer Based Training module for www.WoodUniversity.org
    • Significantly improved the custom Content Management System
    • Designed and developed the www.PerformancePanels.com website and hooked this up to the Content Management System
    • Developed the online jobs application at www.apawood.org/jobs/
    • Developed a custom e-mail marketing application
    • Developed a custom Contact Database that houses all APA's website contacts
    • Created a way for APA to track PDF downloads from their website
    • Developed the www.FreeFromMold.com website
    • Deployed the www.apawood.org

Artifex continues to maintain APA's various websites and enjoy a fantastic working relationship with their web services team.

  3. Apollonian Publications - Software Application Development; Web, Logo & Print Design

RealityCharting™ Software Logo Design (opens in a new window)

In 2001, Apollonian came to Artifex with an idea; build a software application around their proven Root Cause Analysis methodology. Their goals were to provide the user with an easily understood interface that guides them through the problem solving methods and to provide a way for people to easily share their analysis. Apollonian also wanted a way to make this application web-based.

Web Based & Standalone Application Development

    RealityCharting™ Root Cause Analysis Application

Artifex responded with a Flash-based application that allows the user to drag and drop to create causal relationships. The software is built for quality engineers, safety personnel, and any manager who is interested in solving problems and preventing their re-occurrence. The software supports these users with functions like the rules check, action item list, solution generation, and a final report.

    Software Development, Innovation

Version 1.0 was launched in 2002. Although the immediate goals were met, inevitably additions were requested by the ever-growing user based. Version 2.0 was launched in 2003 and included significant upgrades, such as the ability to export data to other applications, such as PDF, MS Powerpoint, and MS Word to help with presentations.

Another significant milestone was reached in 2003 when General Electric Aircraft Engines Division requested a web-based version of the software. After configuring the software so that it would integrate with GE's action tracking system, Artifex deployed the software, complete with a brand new interface. GE uses the software to help with their safety and quality assurance efforts. They received a software upgrade in 2006.

    Target Market Growth

Since then, the web-based, or Enterprise version of the software has been deployed to other large organizations; such as Honeywell, Cargill, and GE Energy. The standard application is build with Java and Oracle.

Version 3 of the software was released in 2004 with more significant upgrades, such as an Undo feature and PDF creation. Artifex is currently working on Version 4.

    Branding, Corporate Identity

Artifex also designed the RealityCharting™ logo and built the www.RealityCharting.com website with the AFX Content Management System.
